Thomas Francis Hudson

21st October 1895 - 30th September 1917

Tom Hudson was born in the NSW country town of Nymagee, the fourth child and eldest son of Francis and Mary Hudson​. He attended St Joseph's School in Nymagee. By the time the First World War began the family was living in the Sydney suburb of Tempe. Tom applied to enlist for the armed forces on 4th September 1916 at the age of 20 and took the oath the next day, his occupation recorded as "Book keeper". He was killed in action a little over one year later on 30th September, 1917 at Polygon Wood, Belgium in the Third Battle of Ypres. He was buried where he was killed and has no known grave. His name is inscribed at the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium along with 6177 other Australians without graves.

At the time of his enlistment Tom worked as a book keeper at Loader & Willock, Mercers and Shirtmakers at 105 King St, Sydney, just to the right of the horse and carriage in this photo. (date unknown) The company was sold in August 1917.
